Abstract

Abstract
Computer processing developments and the compilation of specialized corpora (large, structured collections of spoken or written texts) have brought about innovative approaches to discourse analysis that help expand the description of the language used by specific discourse communities. Corpus‐based research findings provide empirical evidence of the linguistic tendencies used in these specialized discourses. These findings become important tools that newcomers to these communities need while learning the language forms and functions of those specialized discourses and while acculturating to these language contexts.
