Urban Community Studies

<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title> <jats:p>The field of urban community studies explores the social life of cities. Drawing inspiration from early sociological thinking about the changes brought about by industrialization, researchers explore how communities adapt to the diversity and changing conditions of urban life. They highlight ongoing tensions between “traditional” and “cosmopolitan” norms and values, patterns of interaction between diverse groups, and the role of communities in shaping institutions and the built environment.</jats:p>
